In one of the story lines Glenn Williamson and his wife are seeking a way to reach the people around them in their neighborhood. The answer for them was to copy the idea of a local pizza restaurant that sends coupons in the form of a postcard with a story that people look forward to receiving each month.
A few years ago I was reading my Bible and the story of the Good Samaritan and the question "who is my neighbor?"
I then began to think that God isn't in to coincidences. I then concluded that God put me in the neighborhood that I was living for a reason. I began to pray each day that God would allow me to have all of my neighbors from this world and my family, my friends, the people I worked with and everyone that He brings into my life with me in eternity.
I then started to think of ways that I could communicate with my neighbors. The answer that I came up with was a postcard with a story, a picture and a gospel message. Something they couldn't help but read on their way to the trash can to throw out.
Each month I would write a story, have them printed by vistaprint.com and then mail to everyone who was on the same postal route as I was.
My dream is that we would have enough people in our community to monthly send a post card to every mail box in the U.S. and Canada (I would be good with the whole world too ;-) ). It doesn't have to be my cards or through my website, you can do something similar. The point is, reach out in some way to the people who are literally, physically, closest to you.
I have been convinced that God gave us the most powerful tool in the world and made it the easiest to use. I can only believe that it is the concerted effort of the enemy that keeps this tool as little used as it is and as misused.
You may be fearful about approaching a person that God has put on your heart to speak to about salvation, but if you consistently pray for those people, and pray consistently that God would speak through you and bless you with His peace to know when the right time and circumstances were in place, He will make the divine arrangements for you.
I know from my own life that some family members or co-workers are resistant from anything that I would say to them. It is fine to pray for them, do what you can to plant seeds and to pray for God to send others that will be better received.
Every person can pray and have a large and unknown impact on eternity through them.
Central story lines in The Eternity Perspective starts with a simple prayer by a young girl at a restaurant. Only on the other side of eternity will we see the waves of blessings that were released by our prayers.
I think the best thing that you can do to be like Yeshua is to serve and delight others. I carry with me pure copper bullion coins that cost about $1 each. One of them is a "warrior" coin that I give to veterans and police officers, and one is an Indian head coin that I usually give to families with young children (especially if the child is hangry). Probably about 5 times a week I get to give one to a veteran and a lot of times they get a tear in their eye for being thanked for what they did. A simple "Jesus told me to bless you" at that moment will have an impact for the Kingdom.
There are hundreds of small gestures of service or gifts that will encourage and bless people and open a door for the name above all names (which is actually Yeshua, not Jesus but we are early into that battle).
In the book Fran Harris uses the technique of small gifts to open doors and bring a little joy to people's lives. My main message is that the smallest stone tossed into the pond that is eternity will caused ripples to radiate out.
In one of our story lines, Jerry Kasek travels on business and when he checks out he leaves a tip for the cleaning staff, the Bible open to John 3:16 and a "love" note telling the staff that he had prayed for them and is hoping to be able to see them in eternity with Jesus.
Simple "love" notes like that in a hotel or with a tip in a restaurant is nice. You can write a bunch and keep them in a wallet for when you go to restaurants.
Delight, express genuine love, and give a vision of eternity.
The Bible tells us to be salt and light in this world. Salt is for enhancing other flavors - followers of Yeshua should enhance life and love around them (not being nasty finger pointers). Others should WANT to follow because of the quality of our lives - peace and power.
Light really only benefits people in darkness. We are to go to the dark places. In the Bible times being a widow or orphan meant being without the means of supporting life itself.
The biggest impacts that we can have on eternity is by going to the darkest places - "retirement" homes, hospitals and shut ins.
If you truly are "born again" you have a deep love for every soul, you have a peace that passes all understanding, and a boldness from no longer fearing death. Your love, your peace and your power should be observable and attractive to others
